I did not know this at the start of my recent quest to the Holy Land via YouTube, but in the Old City of Jerusalem there is a code called the “Status Quo”. Now in Israel, this refers to keeping the Old City as much like it was in the old days as possible.
One example of this is a ladder that has been there forever, it is called – The Immovable Ladder: is a wooden ladder leaning against a window of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City of Jerusalem, protected from removal or alteration under the law of the Status Quo.
Some think, and there is evidence that the ladder may have been there since 1728. Learn more about the The Immovable Ladder at Wikipedia >
Now I suppose this would bug a neat freak. Jews could succumb to the urge to tidy up a bit, but they are very respectful so I don’t think so… Don’t move the ladder, they are all worried about that kind of thing.
