Protesting has such a long history in our country. Our cherished Constitution suggests it, encourages it, validates it as a free form of expression. Anything anywhere…
Take the Nazi march on Skokie.
Everybody knew that Skokie was a Jewish suburb. Everybody.
So, why not have a Nazis march there? In 1977 no less, when the sting of the Holocaust is still there in memory. Oh, I think they were starting to get comfortable and thought people were liking and respecting them for who they are.
No, they insisted that Nazis march through their town.
They could have marched anywhere, but they choose Skokie, a Jewish suburb.
Here’s an article about it >
…and a video…
I guess they [supposedly] tried to march in the city of Chicago and other suburbs, but they did not let them do it there. Just Skokie. What a tribute to free speech in this country, to have a bunch of clowns dressed up as idiots marching through your town just to bug you.
That sounds kinda familiar… Flashback.
I read further about this march, and I see it never actually happened. It just went on and on in courts and certainly in the media for a few years until it petered out. Huh. Okay.
I am disappointed in a way. I kept looking for pictures of Nazis marching past terrified Jews in a sleepy suburb of Chicago and I couldn’t find one.
